Common Types of Diseases and their Fish Medications
Just like humans, fish pets also get sick from time to time. When keeping an aquarium, it’s important to arm yourself with information on some of the most common diseases and the right fish medications to use. The following are some of the most common diseases that are known to inflict fish pets.Mouth fungus Mouth fungus, despite its name, is actually a bacterial disease. It’s called mouth fungus because its symptoms include white, fungus-like patches around the fish pet’s mouth. For treatment, use 10,000 units of penicillin per one liter of aquarium water for two days, with the second day requiring a second dose.Red pestRed pest is a disease that is caused by an internal bacterial infection. Symptoms include streaks that look like blood splashed across the body, fins, and tail. To treat fish pets with red pest, fish medications include an antibiotic (such as tetracycline or chloramphenicol) that should be added into the pet’s food.
