The Other Kids Understood
As a kid, it was really hard to figure out where I fit in. I came from a very large and wacky family. My own parents were divorced and my mother remarried and then had another nine children with her new husband. I also had step siblings on both sides. I lived in a conservative area where most of my peers had original families. I found a lot of support at blended family events. It was a chance to really be myself and be around other kids who really understood what I was going through having divorced parents. I didn’t have to pretend or feel self conscious. It was a lot of help.
